Basic Tips on How To Wash Your Human Hair Wig

The use of human hair wigs has grown more popular over the years because there are a lot of affordable human hair wigs available in the market today.

Human hair is made from real hair and as such demands adequate care and attention. One of the many ways of maintaining a wig is by washing and that is what this article is about to address.

How to Wash a Human Hair Wig

Washing a wig is not all about shampoo and water, it demands more. Discussed below are important procedures that guide the process of wig washing.

  1. First before you begin, comb the wig with a suitable wig comb to get rid of tangles and knots. For straight hair, use a wire wig brush and for curly hair, use a wide-toothed comb.

Combing should start from the ends and when that area is free of knots, you proceed towards the roots. Keep up with this until you can brush your entire hair without restrictions.

  1. Next, pour a bowl of water into the sink, add shampoo, and stir. Make sure you use a high-quality shampoo because fake shampoo contains harmful chemicals that may cause harm to your wig.

If available, use specific shampoo for specific wigs. For instance, use shampoo specially designed for curly wigs when washing curly wigs. For a dyed wig, use color-guard shampoo.

Do not apply shampoo to the wig directly. Instead, add the shampoo to the water and wash the wig using soapy water.

  1. With your fingers, carefully turn the wig inside out. Lay the wig inside the water and press on it gently with your fingers. Swirl gently to get the shampoo and water in between the strands.

Turning the wig inside out before doing this will help the shampoo get to the wig cap fast, especially since dirt, oil, and sweat are concentrated here.

  1. Soak the wig and allow it for some minutes. Make sure you do not leave any part out of the water. Be careful not to toss the wig around during this time. If you move and squeeze the wig too much, you will end up tangling it.
  1. Rinse out the shampoo from the wig with fresh water. You can do the rinsing in a bucket, in a sink, or in a shower. Whichever method you use, ensure that every trace of shampoo is rinsed completely from the wig. If the wig is very thick, you may have to rinse it two or three times.
  1. Apply a suitable conditioner. To apply, drizzle a little amount of conditioner into the wig and comb it out with your fingers. If the wig has a lace frontal, avoid getting conditioner on the wig cap.

Knot the hair strands first before applying the conditioner. This method will help protect the wig cap from coming in contact with the conditioner. Remember always go for high-quality products, you can also use a leave-in conditioner if you so desire.

  1. After conditioning, allow it to settle in for a few minutes before washing it out. Leaving the conditioner on the wig for some time will make the wig remain hydrated and nourished. After about 2-3 minutes wait, rinse the conditioner off the wig until there are no traces left.

Conclusion

Every human hair wig demands proper care and maintenance. This is the only way to ensure that it does not lose its shine and sparkle. Endeavor to wash your wig from time to time because a clean wig is a healthy wig.
