Finding time for myself… and why it’s so hard to do!

Anyone that has kids knows that trying to find time to spend doing the things you love is so hard.

Whether you are a stay at home parent or working there never seems to be enough hours in the day.

Our days are so full on now, between running around after a toddler and the constant demands of a newborn its difficult to find even 5 minutes to enjoy a hot cup of tea.

Before having the boys I had loads of free time, probably too much.

I had the time to read books (I remember the days of demolishing a whole book in one sitting) watch box sets or take an afternoon nap if that’s what I felt like doing (which me and the hubby used to do every saturday afternoon)

Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t change my lot for the world but I do wish I had appreciated it a little bit more back then.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

Looking after the rug rats is a full-time job, one I very rarely get a day off from.

I’ve been thinking lately that it’s so important that I make time for MYSELF regardless of whats going on during the day even if it’s 30 minutes. If you can’t look after yourself then I’ve no chance of being a good mum to my kids.

So I went and brought a book on the kindle. It was a chick lit book by an author I adore, once upon a time I would have eaten that book for breakfast, I brought the book 2 months ago I’ve read about 3 chapters, whoops. I might finish it by the year 2020 at this rate.

The other thing I’m doing for ME is the revamp of my blog.

I’ve been flirting with the idea of going self hosted for ages now, I honestly just didn’t think my blog was good enough to justify the charge (even thou it’s dirt cheap to move over).

I did something brave one day and messaged a well-known blogger and asked for a little advice and assistance (Fran at Whinge Whinge Wine if you care to have a look) and she pointed me in the direction of a Facebook group UK Parent Bloggers (UK Bloggers need only apply).

I’m so glad I did approach her, I would happily say that the group has changed my perspective on my blog other people’s blogs and how I view it as a whole.

I’ve started to view my blog as work now which is fine by me I’m really enjoying building up my content. I work on it every night when the boys are in bed, it’s my little piece of me.

I love being a mother but sometimes you need a little escapism and this certainly is mine.

It is so hard to find me time after kids! You have to carve it out wherever you can. I’m glad you’ve found some new purpose with your blog. I know what you mean about reading. It takes me at least 6 months to finish any one book! #EatSleepBlogRT

I too love being a mum, and it’s getting time for myself that helps me enjoy it even more. Such a great idea to consider your blog as work. This was key for me too, to understand that what you do is important, even if you don’t get paid for it! #triballove

Well im hoping one day in the near future I will be able to make some money from it, It would be fab to not have to go back to work once the boys are both in school. Just to be there when they get home and leave in the morning is so important to me.

Totally with you on this one – it’s impossible to find me time. I wish I had more time for blogging too. I’m going to check out that group you mention. Good luck with finishing your book sometime this decade!!

If your blogging just for fun then I would say just use the free wordpress or blogger if you are looking to make money review items or add videos etc to your site then go self hosted. It really doesn’t cost that much per year but you can do so much more than on the free platform.

I’m with you on this! I’ve found that in the 15 months since the kids came home, I feel like I have lost a bit of myself as I have no time to do the things I used to. However, since I’ve started blogging, I’ve found a bit of time for me again which is fab!

Its great to have something thats just for you. Motherhood can be all consuming, I’ve got 2 boys with colds tonight so I imagine its going to be a long one 🙂

As mum to an awesome 10 year old with a sizeable chunk of additional needs I think I lost myself a long time ago.

I am not sure what “time for myself” is anymore. Is that the time I spend campaigning for better public toilet facilities for disabled people? Or time I spend sleeping?

Maybe time for yourself is doing something you feel passionate about 🙂

Its tough to find a little you time isn’t it? I never feel like picking up a book in the evening but I love working on my blog. Its how I unwind and I dedicate an hour to it each night when the kids are bed! #eatsleepblogrt
